BGEN Awarded Project for Prestigious Platinum Refinery Project

He has consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication and a remarkable work ethic. Tom is always showing his ability to go above and beyond what is expected and with all of this Tom always shows a smile.” Liam McCarthy, BGEN Construction Manager

BGEN is proud to announce its role as a key MEICA partner to install a new, replacement platinum group metals refinery existing site in the UK.

The state-of-the-art refinery will span two buildings linked by an interconnecting personnel and piping/cable bridge. The Main Facilities Building will house advanced processing facilities and for platinum group metals, while the Annex will provide additional processing facilities.

While the Main Facility Building was originally constructed three years ago, it was for a different process strategy. Hence, the configuration of the shell requires deconstruction and reconfiguration to align with the updated layout of the facilities. The Annex, which is a new building, will feature three internal floors and rooftop plant and equipment.

A Collaborative Alliance
BGEN was invited to join the prestigious project Alliance in November 2023, based on its reputation for excellence and reliability. The Alliance, structured under a Collaboration Agreement,

  • BGEN: Delivering MECIA (Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Instrumentation and automation) installation of process and utility systems.

The project is led by another contractor, serving as both Principal Contractor and Principal Designer, with all design undertaken by them. Mechanical and electrical materials and equipment have been purchased by the client and are free issued for installation when required.

Driving Progress and De-Risking Delivery
BGEN’s scope is to provide a complete installation service and then provides support for operational qualification where required. Since early engagement in April 2023, BGEN’s project team has actively collaborated to meticulously plan the MECIA installation sections as the building structure progresses.

This early involvement has delivered significant advantages, including:

  • Advance ordering and delivery of bulk electrical materials.
  • Early commencement of piping prefabrication.
  • Proactive mobilisation of key subcontractors, enabling installation activities to start ahead of schedule.

As a trusted partner, BGEN is committed to delivering operational excellence and supporting the client’s vision for a world-class platinum refinery.
