To join our Electrical Design Engineering Team to deliver the field service requirements for our clients. The role requires attendance to client sites to survey existing systems and carry out modifications on existing electrical installations. Duties will involve control panel modifications, PLC system upgrades and wiring migrations, including complete site testing and commissioning of control systems.
Field engineering services on utility assets throughout the United Kingdom.
The jobholder will need to spend the majority of their time on client sites as necessary to deliver the function.
Working to defined procedures, carry out installation, modification and testing of control systems equipment and associated communications devices.
Ensure equipment supplied by BGEN is installed correctly and in accordance with manufacturers recommendations.
Ensure equipment manufactured and configured by BGEN meets the project requirements, is complete and completely tested and delivers a high level of customer satisfaction.
Ensure ‘‘best practice’’ testing and commissioning processes are adopted.
Comply with all BGEN Health and Safety requirements, processes and procedures.
Assume responsibility for safe use and care of company tools and vehicles (Van).
Manage equipment and materials supplies required for site work.
Travel to sites throughout the U.K. and be prepared to spend some time away from home in overnight accommodation.
Completion of task related H&S documentation.
Completion of test documentation.
- Must understand the needs of BGEN Technology and BGEN Ltd as a whole.
- Some knowledge or experience of Telemetry systems would be advantageous.
- Must be able to work under own initiative and be able to drive site work forward to completion within set timescales.
- Must have a good level of Electrical/Electronic/Controls systems technical ability proven through “hands on” experience.
- Must be a team player and able to integrate well in to our existing LV Engineering team. Field work will generally be carried out by 2-man Teams.
- Must have good interpersonal skills and have the ability to effectively communicate at all levels.
- Must be positive, approachable, willing and helpful.
- Must encourage collaborative working where appropriate.
- Must possess good organisational skills and the ability to multi-task, prioritise activities and work under time pressures.

Job related experience
Individuals will ideally have previous experience of working on industrial sites and greater than 3 years “hands on” experience in an Engineering environment.
Experience in the following areas would be advantageous;
Electrical & Instrumentation Installation
Electrical & Electronic Engineering
Control Systems & Instrumentation
The applicant must possess good I.T. skills and be fully proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (i.e. Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Sharepoint) software.
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the organisation and with clients.
Safety & Product training requirements
OEMs: (Siemens / Pulsar / ABB / Regin / Xylem / Mutilsmart / etc) training required to enable configuration / set up of VSDs, Level Controllers, Telemetry Outstations etc.
Health & Safety training – CSCS, SHEA etc required to comply with client site access rules.
Note, BGEN will provide the above training as required.
LV Switchgear and controlgear assemblies
To be fully familiar with different styles of Form 2 and Form 4 low-voltage assemblies: local control panels / motor control centres / switchboards.
Devices & Components: Familiarisation and wiring of contactors, overload relays, control relays, VSDs, soft starts, level controllers, flow controllers, motorised valves etc.
Wiring: Accurate interpretation of schematic diagrams, methods of wiring, selection / ratings of cables.
Site works: Familiarisation with the installation of local control panels / motor control centres, be able to organize and carry out modifications to existing control systems safely.
LV Engineering / Design
Integrate with the LV Engineering Team, providing LV Design support as required:
Updating / modification of drawings using CAD Software (AutoCAD, Promis.e)
Assistance with LV Designs, producing general arrangement diagrams and schematic drawings
Understand methods of hardware control (types of motor-starters, DOL, Star Delta, VSD and Soft-start.)
Understand / schematic diagrams, for motor-starters / relay control
Understand control philosophies, user-requirement specifications, functional design specifications and customer requirements
Be familiar with the different types of PLC systems – Siemens / Rockwell / Mitsubishi etc.
Be familiar with various OEM PLC system architectures.
Be familiar with ndustrial communications networks – Ethernet, ProfiNET ProfiBUS, DeviceNet, ControlNet related implications & set up.
Be familiar with methods of addressing – both internal registers / external IO.
Be familiar with down loading/ up loading and verifying software
Be able to interrogate PLC software to assist with commissioning / fault finding.
Produce Method Statements / Risk Assessments as required and in line with client requirements, modify if necessary prior to commencing any site testing activities.
Adhere to / comment on client commissioning plans.
Carry out initial inspections – ascertain the installation is complete and ready for commissioning (obtain documentation from clients to confirm.)
Ensure plant is in a safe state to energise / run.
Carry out initial hardware testing with client’s engineers (energise the system, check all hard wired IO), check all instruments are wired / signals are OK etc.)
Be competent in the setting of VSD’s, Soft Starts, Level, Flow, Heating, and Pressure Controllers etc.
Check / test electrical cabling installations
Check panel / site communications – networks are functional, all devices are visible on the network and the networks are healthy.
Assist the client with functional commissioning – putting the plant to work.
Keep accurate site logs / day work records – liaise with clients’ representative.
Be commercially aware – log / act on all scope changes (i.e. variations to cost/delivery)
