Senior Electrical Project Engineer


To take a lead role in the delivery of projects within Technology incorporating multiple disciplines; electrical (LV), software (SI), telemetry and minor E&I works. Ensuring all of the associated design requirements and procurement of materials are completed in a timely manner and to agreed timescales, whilst taking responsibility for associated product conformity requirements and commercial performance in line with company targets.


BGEN Ltd – Technology SBU

The job holder shall report to the Operations Manager and liaise closely with Key Account Managers, Project Managers, electrical design and production teams, software engineering teams, bid teams and clients as necessary to effectively execute the function.


To co-ordinate and oversee all disciplines in delivering projects (electrical, software, telemetry and minor E&I works), including but not limited to design activities, documentation, and submission of deliverables To support LV Electrical Design Engineers with reactive problem solving and in the development of their skills and capabilities

To provide technical assistance and guidance to clients and on projects, both pre and post sales, and to the bid teams in the generation of estimates, proposals and tenders.

To work alongside our Joint Venture Partner supporting the technical details for project allocation

To support our Key Account Manager with project opportunities and developing an understanding of the client’s needs. Supporting the management of budgets, targets and sales strategies in order to meet our strategic objectives.

Undertake site surveys and produce site survey reports (electrical biased) and co-ordinate input of other disciplines into site surveys and reports

Assist with production of Early Warning, Compensation Events & Technical Queries

Produce and co-ordinate the submission of RAMS for site works and deliveries and arrange site shutdowns and all site access arrangements

Liaise with production department to arrange site installation, modifications and resolution of snagging and defects etc.

Arrange on site commissioning and any site support activities

Attend internal/external progress meetings and assist with production of weekly reports to clients and internally

Attend internal resource meetings to ensure that all of your projects are adequately resourced

Support project material purchasing activities, ensuring that all key project materials are correct and purchased in line with project programmes and within budgeted allowances


Based at Grangemouth offices

The jobholder may need to spend time within other office locations and client sites as necessary to deliver the function.

Principal accountabilities

1. Ensure assigned projects are completed on time and to budget, including updating project commercial files and monthly progress reports, capturing change, and highlighting any project risks.

2. Ensure electrical design drawings and calculations are produced from client’s requirements, associated technical and QA standards and in accordance ‘best’ engineering practice.

3. Ensure technical reviews of electrical designs, drawings and calculations are completed, in accordance with appropriate QA requirements.

4. Maintain a close relationship with the Technical Manager to ensure the highest level of system

requirements are met, based on the user’s needs and other constraints such as cost and programme.

5. On a regular basis, assist with the development of standards & tools in order to enhance productivity, improve quality, comply with legislation and/or keep abreast of developments in technology. Ensure the LV Electrical Engineering team is properly updated with developments / standards by leading the communication process.

6. Through regular review and audit, ensure output maintains compliance with the Technology QA system technical requirements.

7. Review and approve technical content of estimates, proposals and tenders as necessary.

8. Notify LV Operations Director of any significant commercial, technical or contractual risks associated with current or pending projects.

9. Prepare for, attend and participate in project and engineering meetings as determined by the project demands or regular engineering management needs.

10. Positively promote capabilities and relationships within other parts of the business in order to

maximise on cross-divisional opportunities.

10. Must have experience of site surveying and reporting on existing electrical equipment through a ‘hands-on’ approach i.e. investigating of in-service electrical equipment, identification of existing circuits, their components and associated wiring to facilitate modification/upgrade works to be completed.


Academic qualifications

HNC/HND Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Or equivalent through experience).

BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Or equivalent through experience).

Member of The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) (Preferable).

Professionally registered as IEng or CEng (Engineering Council) (Preferable).

Job related experience

>10 years as an Electrical Project / Design Engineer (Or equivalent through experience)

Hands-on experience of Power Switchgear and Controlgear Assemblies.

Skills and knowledge

Competent technical knowledge of industrial power systems.

Competent technical knowledge of industrial control and automation systems.

Knowledge of national standards such as BS EN 61439-2, BS EN 60947 Low-voltage Switchgear and Controlgear, BS 7671 IET Wiring Regulations.

Knowledge of ISO9001 QA systems.

Knowledge with Autodesk (AutoCAD) or Bentley (Microstation / Promis.e) and Microsoft Office 365 (i.e. Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Sharepoint) software.
