BGEN to Deliver MCC Replacement Project for British Client
Modernising Critical Infrastructure
BGEN is proud to announce its involvement in a project to modernise the facility’s operations, enhancing efficiency and embedding sustainable practices throughout the process.
Scope of the Project
The project focuses on the comprehensive replacement of the existing Motor Control Centre (MCC) and associated electrical systems. As part of the pre-investigation phase to be completed during the campaign season, BGEN will work closely with the clients engineering team to assess the current infrastructure and develop a tailored execution plan for the new installation. The majority of the works are to be completed within a restricted timescale during the off-season, the team will ensure the new systems are seamlessly integrated into the facility with minimal operational disruption.
Onsite Activities
BGEN’s experienced team will oversee the careful disconnection and removal of the existing redundant electrical infrastructure and associated cabling. All waste will be responsibly managed by BGEN utilising the clients own onsite environmentally friendly waste disposal streams.
Following this, BGEN will install advanced cable containment systems, relocate & install new distribution boards, and integrate free-issued variable speed drive inverters into all new motor circuits. The project also includes upgrading operational controls by installing local Start/Stop pushbutton stations and enhanced cabling infrastructure, ensuring improved safety and efficiency.
Project Timeline and Execution
The project is scheduled to start with pre-investigation works in late 2024 and be completed in summer 2025. Since 2008 BGEN have maintained a permanent onsite team at the the clients Newark Site, headed up by BGEN’s Site Manager Steve Sleight. Steve will ensure each phase is executed methodically and to the highest standards, with all work undergoing rigorous testing and inspection to ensure full compliance with industry regulations. Regular progress updates will be shared with the client to maintain transparency,
Commitment to Sustainability
Sustainability is central to this project. The client has implemented a robust Carbon Management Plan to monitor and minimise the environmental impact. The plan includes a detailed assessment of greenhouse gas emissions from equipment, materials, and operations. By prioritising sustainable practices, BGEN is supporting the clients net-zero carbon goals and ensuring the project delivers long-term environmental benefits.
Transparent Cost Management
Due to its complexity and limited available defined scope of works BGEN have agreed to deliver the project via Target Cost/Open Book Agreement, this will ensure the client receives a clear and effective project cost management. During the project duration monthly KPI/Progress meetings will be held between BGEN and the client to discuss works completed date, cost incurred to date and future works/costs for the forthcoming month ahead. Any savings achieved below the target cost after project completion will be returned to the client, highlighting BGEN’s commitment to delivering both value-added engineering and quality.
A Transformative Collaboration
This project highlights BGEN’s expertise in providing specialist value-added engineering on complex infrastructure upgrades while supporting clients’ sustainability objectives. By modernising critical systems at the Newark Sugar Factory, BGEN will help the client enhance its operational efficiency and reduce its environmental footprint.
