BGEN Secures Major Upgrade for Ayr Shore Road WwPS as Part of WGM-B JV
BGEN is thrilled to announce our latest project win: a comprehensive upgrade of the Ayr Shore Road Wastewater Pumping Station (WwPS) for Scottish Water, delivered in partnership with the WGM-B JV. This project represents a significant step forward in advancing wastewater management infrastructure on the Scottish West Coast.
Project Overview
The Ayr Shore Road WwPS is a critical asset for wastewater control, managing high-volume flows and storm events. The existing control system has faced numerous challenges, including outdated hardware and frequent system failures. BGEN, as a key player in the WGM-B JV, will lead the transformation by replacing the obsolete system with a state-of-the-art Siemens framework solution, ensuring enhanced reliability and efficiency.
BGEN will deliver a comprehensive upgrade that includes:
SCADA and Network Modernisation: Installation of a new SCADA server panel and UPS, creation of an updated SCADA & network FDS. This will allow for the deployment of a new site-wide fibre network with a communications panel to improve data handling and system connectivity.
Advanced PLC and HMI Integration: Replacement of outdated Allen-Bradley PLC systems with latest framework hardware whilst utilising conversation modules for minimal plant downtime. Installation of a ProSoft Ethernet/IP to Modbus Serial Gateway module, and introduction of new Allen-Bradley HMIs for enhanced control and monitoring.
Sludge Grinder System Overhaul: The existing sludge grinder control panels will be reverse engineered to allow for new specification and framework compliant units can be manufactured and installed. Whilst ensuring these new units are connected to the site wider fibre network and visible on the new SCADA system, the units will ‘hot swapped’ out ensuring minimal downtime for the plant.
Seamless Migration and Installation: Development of a meticulous migration plan based on on-site verification, removal of old control panels, and installation of new cabling and containment to ensure smooth integration with minimal disruption.
Benefits and Expected Outcomes
This upgrade will substantially enhance the reliability and performance of the Ayr Shore Road WwPS. BGEN’s expert execution will ensure that the facility is well-equipped to handle both current demands and future challenges. Our approach promises minimal disruption and a seamless transition to the new control systems, aligning with Scottish Water’s goals for improved wastewater management.
