BGEN Secures Major Upgrade for Castlemilk TWP as Part of WGM-B JV
BGEN is excited to announce our latest project win: a comprehensive upgrade of the Castlemilk Treated Water Pumping Station (TWP) for Scottish Water, delivered in collaboration with the WGM-B JV. This project marks a significant advancement in enhancing water control infrastructure on the south side of Glasgow.
Project Overview
The Castlemilk TWP plays a crucial role in managing clean water distribution, supplying two local reservoirs (High and Low). However, the current control system is facing significant issues, including outdated MCC wiring and hardware obsolescence. BGEN, as a key member of the WGM-B JV, will lead the overhaul by replacing the existing system with a state-of-the-art Siemens framework solution, ensuring improved reliability and performance.
BGEN’s Comprehensive Solution
BGEN will deliver a robust upgrade that includes:
PLC and HMI Replacement: Supply and installation of a new Siemens PLC to replace the existing Alspa PLC in the TWP MCC, alongside a new Siemens HMI and IPC unit to replace the outdated Red Lion HMI.
ICA Section Installation: Provision of a new instrumentation control and automation (ICA) section to house the new Siemens PLC and HMI, enhancing system integration and control. This will adjoin the existing MCC to ensure a seamless interface for the site operations team.
Interface Terminals: Supply and fitting of new interface terminals in the existing ICA to replace the Alspa PLC hardware. These terminals will connect existing hardwired signals between the ICA and the new local control panel.
HMI Removal and Covering: Removal of the old Red Lion HMI and covering the cut-out to complete the upgrade process.
Development of a new FDS (Functional Design Specification), created via the reverse engineering of the software code. Combined with the migration of the existing code, the new PLC software will go through a two stage in house testing (iFAT & cFAT) prior to being downloaded onto the new site PLC.
Migration and Cabling: Development of a detailed migration plan based on on-site verification, installation of a new cableway to facilitate cable entry and new cabling and containment for the local control panel to ensure smooth integration with minimal disruption.
Benefits and Expected Outcomes
This upgrade will significantly improve the reliability and efficiency of the Castlemilk TWP. BGEN’s precise execution will ensure that the facility can effectively meet current and future demands, with minimal disruption to operations. Our approach will align with Scottish Water’s commitment to maintaining high standards of clean water management.
