AstraZeneca STEM Family Fun Day
Our colleagues were delighted to support the AstraZeneca family fun day on Saturday 14th September. The closed event saw AstraZeneca North West based employees, staff, contractors, suppliers and their families attend the Family Fun Day at the Macclesfield campus. The event was a celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Manufacturing.
We provide a wide range of engineering solutions to AstraZeneca through both our term contract and Design and Build projects in conjunction with BES Ltd. Visitors were able to experience a recent project through our virtual reality station. This design and build project had been seen by many on site as it rose from the ground, and the VR allowed all participants to explore inside.
In addition, younger visitors enjoyed pressing buttons on the specially programmed HMI and panel. The set up illustrated how automation works with an interactive virtual fill line, allowing users to fill the flavour of their choice soda bottle. An engineered game “React” illustrated how to make simple electrical circuits for fun games, and many requested the information to have a go at home. Hopefully, we will have a new generation of electrical engineers for the future!
Two of our team members went down a “storm” on the day. They brought their own style of encouragement to visit us in the Engineering Zone as well as appearing in numerous selfies. The colleagues’ day jobs are within BES, but brought out their alter egos for the event.
It was a fantastic day to share our passion for engineering with those thinking about their career paths, as well as those who work every day within facilities directly or indirectly related to our engineering projects at Macclesfield. And of course, we now know some colleagues have hidden talents too!” The event raised funds in aid of the East Cheshire Hospice and Teenage Cancer trust.
