Certification of our health and safety management system: Transition from OHSAS18001 to ISO 45001.
Last month, we successfully transitioned the certification of our health and safety management system from OHSAS18001 to ISO 45001.
ISO 45001 is the new ISO – International Organization for Standardization standard for occupational health and safety (OH&S). It has become one of the most eagerly awaited standards in the world and is set to drastically improve levels of workplace safety.
All companies currently holding OHSAS 18001 certification are required to be transitioned to the new standard in 2021.
ISO 45001 looks at mitigating adverse effects on the physical, mental, and cognitive condition of a person – focusing primarily on the interaction between the organisation and the business environment.
From analysis and audit to the implementation of new processes, this complex transition was made too difficult to complete last year, due to the pandemic. Therefore, the ISO institute allowed for a six-month grace period. This really gave us the breathing room that we needed to implement the new standard without compromise, which – we believe – will significantly shift the way health and safety management is perceived.
