Powering the Future: How BGEN’s LV Engineering Excellence is Built on People

Powering the Future: How BGEN’s LV Engineering Excellence is Built on People

With a legacy of engineering excellence and a forward-thinking approach to talent development, BGEN continues to lead the way in LV engineering while investing in the next generation of professionals who make it all possible.

Delivering High-Performance LV Systems

BGEN’s LV engineering capabilities span the design, assembly, and delivery of fully integrated low-voltage switchboards and packaged substations. These systems are built to the highest standards of quality, resilience, and flexibility supporting mission-critical environments across sectors including energy, water, infrastructure, and manufacturing.

Their systems offer:

  • Form 4a and 4b separation
  • Ingress protection up to IP65
  • Current ratings up to 6300A
  • Short-circuit withstand up to 100kA
  • Naturally ventilated designs for enhanced reliability and reduced maintenance
  • Integrated energy management and automation functionality

What sets BGEN apart is not just the hardware it’s the intelligence built into every system. With digital monitoring, scalable configurations, and cross-platform compatibility, their LV solutions are ready for tomorrow’s grid.

Investing in People to Deliver Quality

The secret to BGEN’s success? A workforce that’s continuously learning, developing, and innovating.

Through a combination of upskilling initiatives, a growing apprenticeship academy, and graduate training programmes, BGEN ensures that its team, from entry-level to leadership, has the tools and support to thrive in a rapidly evolving engineering landscape.

Upskilling and Internal Growth

Recognising that technical innovation is only as strong as the people behind it, BGEN actively promotes internal development. Employees at every level are supported to gain qualifications, develop new capabilities, and move into more advanced roles within the company.

This focus on upskilling isn’t just about professional development; it directly contributes to quality. When teams are confident, capable, and committed, the results show in the precision and reliability of their work.

The Apprenticeship Advantage

BGEN’s apprenticeship programme has expanded significantly in recent years. In 2024, the company announced plans to support up to 75 apprentices across electrical, mechanical, systems, pipefitting, surveying, and network engineering disciplines.

Uniquely, this includes not only school leavers but also current employees looking to grow their careers through formal learning. The programme delivers both technical training and on-the-job experience, ensuring apprentices are ready to contribute meaningfully from day one.

Graduate Development in Action

BGEN is equally committed to graduate engineers, offering structured development pathways that combine real project work with technical mentorship and career progression. Recent graduates such as Abhishek Sharma (LV Estimator) and Bhavik Panchal (Internal Proposals Engineer) are examples of how this approach delivers both individual and organisational success.

At BGEN, the journey from graduate to engineering professional is filled with real responsibility, mentorship, and growth. I’ve been given the opportunity to work on complex LV systems that power major infrastructure across the UK. I’m pleased to announce the completion of my Master’s in Advanced Engineering Management from Leeds Beckett University. Driven by a passion for growth and new challenges, I leveraged three years of experience as an electrical project engineer in India to secure a role at BGEN as an LV estimator. Impressed by BGEN’s engineering expertise and impactful projects, I saw it as the ideal place to begin my career in the water treatment industry.

Being part of the proposals team has given me a front-row seat to how engineering solutions are shaped from concept to delivery. BGEN has invested in my development every step of the way.

People-Driven Quality at Scale

The benefits of BGEN’s people-first approach ripple across the entire business:

  • Improved retention and deep institutional knowledge
  • Strong safety and quality culture
  • Enhanced project delivery capacity, even under complex or time-critical conditions
  • Scalable talent pipelines to support major frameworks and national infrastructure projects

Looking Forward

In a world increasingly defined by digital infrastructure, sustainability targets, and resilient energy systems, BGEN’s LV engineering services are more relevant than ever. Yet it’s the company’s commitment to continuous learning and inclusive talent development that truly sets it apart.

Whether it’s a custom-built switchboard, a national infrastructure contract, or an apprentice’s first day on-site, BGEN delivers with the same unwavering standard of excellence powered by people, driven by purpose.
