Sustainability
We’ve accelerated our journey to sustainability. Together with our colleagues, trusted partners and clients, we’ll ensure that we make a positive contribution to our local environment, to wider society, and to the geographies in which we work

Our Sustainability Approach
We are committed to operating in a way that limits the negative impact from our operations, and that adds value and opportunity in the areas we work.
To support our sustainability ambitions we have a visionary Amy Twist, Head of Sustainability who will be supporting the company, our clients and the project team to work towards a better tomorrow.
Double Materiality Assessment.
To help us identify the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) topics that are truly important to our stakeholders, we have undertaken a Double Materiality Assessment with a consultant (GRAIN Sustainability). The results will inform our ESG strategy.
The assessment found the following topics are important to our team and stakeholders.
Environmental
Energy and GHG emissions
Monitoring and managing the energy consumption and emissions (i.e. CO2) of BGEN’s direct and indirect activities as well as of the entire value chain. Furthering sustainable initiatives that drive down energy-use and emissions.
Waste and resource efficiency
This refers to all resources that contribute to the commercial process of BGEN. In an office environment, this may include the embodied carbon in furniture, rare metals and plastic in computer equipment, or raw materials in paper. Natural resources are used in electricity generation or heating and cooling processes. It includes the reduction of resource use as well as the transition to renewable resources. Waste becomes one of the resources to be carefully managed between waste avoidance and keeping it in the industrial process. Waste needs to be managed adequately, following relevant legislation.
Social
Employee attraction, retention and satisfaction
Ensuring that employees are able to use their competencies, capabilities and experience in a way that adds value to the business, providing personal growth and sustainable innovation, while supporting profitable activity.
Governance
Business ethics and transparency (including Human rights and Modern Slavery)
Openness regarding, and adherence to, generally accepted standards and values and compliance with local statutory and other rules and regulations, particularly with respect to the acquisition and performance of contracts. Human rights and modern slavery Legislation requires BGEN to uphold the human rights across their operations as well as to ensure that partners up and down the value chain adopt the same high standards of integrity.
Infrastructure critical project quality and safety
BGEN’s clients are at the heart of society’s infrastructure. Their uninterrupted operations are of the highest priority. BGEN needs to excel at project delivery to ensure quality & safety and to be a suitable partner. Standardisation of project delivery is key to ensuring the highest levels of quality.
