Project Win: BGEN Appointed to Lead LEV System Design for Major Defence Facility

We are delighted to share that BGEN has been awarded the design and build contract for a critical Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) and HVAC system upgrade at one of the UK’s foremost defence manufacturing facilities.
This significant project involves the full redevelopment of systems originally installed in the early 1980s. The new design will support enhanced air quality, safety, operational efficiency, and compliance with the latest regulatory standards, ensuring the facility remains fit for the demands of current and future defence programmes.
Scope of Work
- Our multidisciplinary team is responsible for developing a comprehensive concept design, encompassing:
- Complete replacement of legacy LEV and HVAC systems.
- Electrical distribution modelling and load assessments.
- Integration of process control systems.
- Structural assessment input for plant support.
- Full digital survey and 3D Revit modelling for coordination.
- Carbon management planning aligned to Net Zero ambitions.
In addition to leading the design scope, BGEN is also fulfilling the Principal Designer role under CDM 2015 regulations, ensuring that health, safety, and compliance are embedded from the outset.
Collaboration and Expertise
The project brings together a skilled network of delivery partners and technical specialists. Our coordinated approach has enabled rapid progress across survey works, stakeholder engagement, and sustainability assessments, ensuring the concept design is both future-ready and operationally robust.
Advanced 3D scanning and modelling technologies are being used across multiple disciplines to deliver a spatially coordinated solution, minimising future risk and rework during later phases.
Sustainability Focus
A core component of this project is our integrated Carbon Management Plan. Developed in partnership with a third-party assessor, it provides a clear roadmap to minimise both embodied and operational carbon across the LEV system’s lifecycle, driving toward sustainable delivery in a traditionally heavy-industrial environment.
Next Steps
The completion of RIBA Stage 1 marks a major milestone in the facility’s modernisation journey. We look forward to supporting the next phases of this complex and critical infrastructure programme.
