Electrical design
We offer all aspects of electrical, control and instrumentation design services. This ranges from HV and LV distribution systems and networks, with embedded generation, all the way through to traditional building services and intelligent process instrumentation with associated digital communications networks.
Electrical design studies and reporting
In-house, we have the ability to carry out studies on electrical fault levels, load flows, protection, coordination and discrimination, along with arc flash incident energy studies.
From the start of any project, our design engineers will work closely with you (and your end user, where applicable) to ensure that every element of your facility has been designed and integrated to fulfil its purpose over its lifetime. To do this, we use the latest tools and techniques, including 3D modelling.
Electrical and instrumentation installation designs
For E&I design production, our diverse offering covers 2D or 3D installation designs adopting Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD LT.
High voltage
We have the in-house capability to carry out HV distribution and protection schemes up to 33kV, including equipment specifications, installation and client particular requirements. These can encompass embedded generation, UPS’s and islanded generator schemes (natural gas, diesel engines and biomass, steam turbines, and CHP), including the specification of switchgear and static plant protection schemes up to 25MW and up to 33kV POC.
We offer the design and specification of indoor and outdoor substations, including containerised solutions, as well as HV installations in accordance with BS EN 61936-1 and BS EN 62271-202.
We have adopted the use of SKM-PTW to undertake HV short circuit fault studies to BS EN (IEC) 60909-0 and BS IEC 61363-1 (islanded installations), load flow voltage studies, protection setting and selectivity studies, and arc flash incident energy studies to IEEE-1584:2002 and IEEE-1584:2018, together with the investigation of mitigation techniques.
Low voltage
We will produce compliant LV distribution designs in-house – whether that means adding circuits to an existing scheme or designing a complex distribution network from first principles.
We undertake the design and specification of LV switchboards (including containerised solutions) to BS EN 61439-1, up to 6300A and 100kA/1s.
We carry out LV cable calculations and systems studies using Trimble (Amtech) ProDesign software, ensuring compliance with BS7671.
We also offer above- and below-ground earthing scheme designs.
Instrumentation
BGEN’s in-house instrumentation engineers and designers are experienced in the latest communication and intelligent instrumentation, while also fully knowledgeable about traditional instrumentation signal methodology.
We have engineers and designers who are certified to CompEx Ex12 and Ex14, ensuring regulatory compliance with BS 60079. The team can design significant and complex instrumentation while maximising efficiencies, thanks in part to their use of AVEVA industrial software.
