Client Requirement:

Our client required a complete reconfiguration of their KIP South Asset to enable the production of a new active ingredient. This transformation needed to take place within an operational chemical plant environment, described as a “cut and carve” project, to repurpose the existing facility while ensuring minimal disruption. Production of the previous product ceased in early 2023 to allow the reconfiguration, with the goal of having the KIP South Asset fully ready for the new manufacturing process.

Our Solution:

BGEN were appointed to provide specialist electrical engineering, where they successfully executed a comprehensive reconfiguration of the KIP South Asset, ensuring the facility met the clients production goals. Our approach focused on both electrical and instrumentation upgrades, providing the client with a modernised, highly efficient production environment.

We began by demolishing existing cabling and assisted in the installation of new Motor Control Centres (MCCs). Key equipment such as trace heating panels, distribution boards (DBs), variable speed drives (VSDs), and emergency stops (E/STOPS) were installed to enhance operational control and safety. We also carried out a complete renewal of low voltage (LV) cabling, connecting transformers to MCCs and integrating the system with new drives, equipment, and emergency controls. The installation of a new earthing system further bolstered safety, while a lighting upgrade and comprehensive labelling improved operational efficiency and compliance.

This was complimented by instrumentation services with modifications to the instrument rack rooms and the installation of essential equipment, including AFDiS cabinets, isolators, and new instruments. We laid new cabling to support instrument operation and conducted testing and installation of instrument pipework.

To ensure the highest levels of performance and safety inspections were carried out to meet ATEX standards, with functional testing and commissioning support.
