Graduate Electrical Engineer

What will your day look like?

At BGEN, you will have the opportunity to deliver electrical infrastructure and project upgrades to our clients. Working through the design lifecycle of a project from tendering, outline design / FEED, detailed design, site installation and commissioning support through to red-lines and as-builts. To achieve this you will be invited to attend site visits/ site surveys, meet with clients, sub-contractors and suppliers supported by one of our in-house mentors.

Under the guidance of your 'Mentor", you could be working on either a single complex scheme or a number of smaller less complex schemes on your own or as part of a team of multi-disciplined engineers to deliver the contracted scope and meet contractual project milestones.

The design deliverables include but are not limited to the selection of cables, cable calculations, cable containment routing drawings, fault studies, single line diagrams, block cable diagrams, equipment location drawings etc and these will be prepared after attending site visits, client meeting and reviewing vendor drawings.

BGEN undertake in-house point cloud surveys, Matterport surveys and design our own 3D models which you'll be involved with creating and designing, as this provides our in-house installation teams with assurance that the design is correct and there will be no changes on site.

You will also be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Interpreting client specifications
    • Production of design deliverables: SLD, BCD, cable calculations, design specifications, vendor drawing reviews
    • Monitor/plan your time against programme to ensure completed to time and budget
    • Ensure Engineering and Design activities meets all national and international standards, clients requirements and 'best' engineering practice by liaison with more senior staff
    • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction

Skills and Knowledge

  • Some knowledge of safe working practices with regards to work on or near electrical equipment.
  • AutoCad exposure / experience is advantageous.
  • Some HMI software development experience.
  • Good planning, organisational and time management skills.
  • Good IT skills including the use of Microsoft Word & Excel
  • Ability to act on own initiative.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels with internal and external parties.
  • High regard for health and safety.
  • Must have good organisational skills.
  • Full, UK Drivers licence is preferable.
  • Previous experience within the Engineering Construction industry in advantageous. Full exposure will be provided.
